In modern industries such as packaging, food, household appliances, pharmaceuticals, and construction, aluminum foil has become an irreplaceable basic material thanks to its lightweight nature, strong barrier properties, and recyclability. Among them, 8011 aluminum alloy foil is the most widely used type, dominating applications in food packaging, bottle closures, pharmaceutical packaging, and air conditioner heat exchangers.
Depending on the application, 8011 aluminum foil can be produced in different tempers such as O, H12, H14, H16, and H18 to achieve the optimal balance of performance and processability.
8011 aluminum alloy belongs to the 8xxx series. By adding Fe and Si elements to pure aluminum, dispersed AlFeSi intermetallic compounds are formed, which significantly improve strength without sacrificing ductility. This unique composition endows 8011 aluminum foil with the following key characteristics:
Excellent moisture and gas barrier properties: Its dense lattice structure makes it nearly impermeable to air and water, making it an ideal packaging material to effectively protect contents from environmental influence.
Good mechanical performance: With different tempers, the strength, elongation, and flexibility of 8011 foil can be precisely adjusted to meet various application requirements.
High-temperature stability: Remains structurally stable between –20°C and 250°C, suitable for high-temperature sterilization (e.g., 121°C for 30 minutes autoclaving).
Good plasticity and formability: Easy to process via stamping and deep drawing, enabling production in various shapes and sizes.
Safe for food contact: Non-toxic and harmless, compliant with international food packaging standards.
Performance of Different Tempers
O Temper (Annealed)
Maximum ductility and softness, suitable for deep drawing, embossing, and complex forming. Commonly used in pharmaceutical blister packs, flexible food packaging, and as base material for composites.H12 Temper (1/4 Hard)
Moderate strength with certain hardness and plasticity. Suitable for bottle caps and container seals requiring both formability and mechanical performance.H14 Temper (1/2 Hard)
Balanced hardness and overall performance. A mainstream choice for tobacco foil, pharmaceutical packaging, food packaging lids, and cosmetic seals. Offers sufficient stiffness for packaging while remaining easy to tear open.H16 Temper (3/4 Hard)
Higher strength, ideal for air conditioner fins and insulation foils where strength and stability are required.H18 Temper (Full Hard)
Maximum strength and hardness with high puncture resistance. Widely used in industrial foils, printing base stock, and composite insulation materials.

Applications of 8011 Aluminum Foil
1. Food Packaging
8011 O and H14 foils are widely used for yogurt lids, instant food bowl covers, and milk caps. They provide excellent sealing and moisture resistance.
2. Pharmaceutical Packaging
O-temper 8011 foil is a common material for blister packs (PTP pharmaceutical foil) and medicine bottle closures. It effectively blocks moisture and light, ensuring drug stability.
3. Beverage Bottle Caps
H14 and H16 foils are extensively used in ROPP aluminum closures for wine, liquor, and beverage bottles, offering both strength and ductility for secure sealing and easy opening.
4. Home Appliances and Construction
H18 foil is used in air conditioner heat exchangers, insulation layers, and roofing membranes thanks to its durability and excellent thermal conductivity.
5. Lamination and Printing
8011 foil is often laminated with plastic or paper to make high-grade flexible packaging materials. It also supports color printing to enhance visual appeal in packaging.
